We all need a good cry once in a while. This blog post was only supposed to be 5 Movies That Will Make You Ugly Cry... BUT... it turned into 10 AND extras...

Here are 10 Movies That Will Make You Ugly Cry

1. P.S. I Love You

Picture
This movie... This movie makes me cry every time I watch it. I will burst into tears and look like a blubbery mess.  Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler does a fantastic job in this movie! If you want a good ugly cry, then this is the #1 movie to choose.

A young woman loses her husband and has trouble getting through the pain and letting him go. Later in the movie, she discovers that her husband left her letters that take her on an emotional journey to try to ease her pain and help more slowly move on with her life without him.

Here is the last letter he sends her. It pulls at my heart so badly, by just reading it I want to burst into tears. Don't read it if you don't want the ending spoiled for you.
Dear Holly,

I don’t have much time. I don’t mean literally, I mean, you’re out buying ice cream and you’ll be home soon. I have a feeling this is gonna be the last letter, because there is only one thing left to tell you. It isn’t to go down memory lane or make you buy a lamp, you can take care of yourself without any help from me. It’s to tell you how much you move me, how you’ve changed me. You made me a man, by loving me, Holly. And for that, I am eternally grateful, literally. If you can promise me anything, promise me that whenever you’re sad, or unsure, or you lose complete faith, that you’ll try to see yourself through my eyes. Thank you for the honor of being my wife. I’m a man with no regrets. How lucky am I. You made my life, Holly. But I’m just a chapter in yours. There’ll be more. I promise. So here it comes, the big one: Don’t be afraid to fall in love again. Watch out for that signal, when life as you know it ends.

P.S. I will always love you.

2. Southpaw

First off, I'm a huge fan of both Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams. They're both amazing actors and hit the ball out of the park with this movie.

A professional boxer loses his wife in a terrible and heart-wrenching accident, sending him spiraling downward. Soon after, protective services takes his daughter away from him.

After losing his wife, his daughter, and his riches, he tries to get his life back on track and get back into the ring.

Grab some tissues, because this movie is an emotional roller-coaster.

3. The Green Mile

Picture
Tom Hanks did a phenomenal job with this film, as I'm sure a lot of people know. Who hasn't seen this movie? I bet most have.

Filmed in 1999, this fantasy crime drama was based off of Stephen King's novel (same name). The main character gets a new inmate put into his custody. Unlike most who are in custody, this new inmate, John, is a caring and gentle soul who was convicted to death for an awful crime he allegedly did.

4. Marley & Me

Movies about dogs always kill my heart, this one especially.

A married couple adopts a puppy, Marley, who is not the most well-behaved fur baby. The cute little puppy grows bigger and bigger, wrecking havoc around the house.

Marley becomes a huge indispensable part of the family, even with his disobeying behavior.

As time passes, the family dog ages and shows signs of health problems, which impacts the family drastically.
A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his.

5. The Vow

Picture
Leo and Paige are madly in love with each other.   After a sudden car crash, Paige is left without her memories of Leo.

Never give up on true love.

Leo is determined to get Paige's memories back, and Paige commits to getting to know her husband again, while her past life, the life she still remembers so clearly, threatens to pull her back in.
I vow to fiercely love you in all your forms, now and forever. I promise to never forget that this is a once in a lifetime love. And to always know in the deepest part of my soul that no matter what challenges might carry us apart, we will always find our way back to each other.

6. Stepmom

A mother who is terminally ill, must settle with the fact that her ex-husband's new lover will soon be their children's stepmother.

This movie is old, set back in 1998. The mother, Jackie, and soon-to-be stepmother, Isabel, clash in many ways involving the way the parent the children.

Isabel tries her hardest to be part of the family and win over the kids, with the best intentions.

A story about two completely different women who bond in an unexpected way and finally stand by each other as family.

Although my explanation of the movie doesn't do it justice in being a sad movie, it's one those movies that you just have to watch to see what I mean.

I have their past.....and you can have their future.

7. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

Picture
There are just no words... Every time I watch this movie OR even see it as I'm scrolling through Netflix, I get so sad. So so so so so so so so so sad.

Set in the time during WWII, a boy makes friends with a Jewish boy who is locked in a concentration camp. The camp's commandant is the little boy's father.

There are many unfortunate and deadly consequences to this friendship, that are unexpected and will leave you startled.

A story of innocence in a world of ignorance.

8. Titanic

Imagine finding the love of your life and having it all taken away from you because of a senseless tragedy.

A 101-year-old woman, Rose, tells an epic love story to her granddaughter about falling in love with Jack, a man in a completely different social class as her, onboard the Titanic.

Jack and Rose fall madly in love in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Soon after, the ship hits an iceberg. Rose searches for Jack, as the ship sinks deeper into the freezing cold water. Will they both survive?

Winning that ticket, Rose, was the best thing that ever happened to me… it brought me to you. And I’m thankful for that, Rose. I’m thankful. You must do me this honor, Rose. Promise me you’ll survive. That you won’t give up, no matter what happens, no matter how hopeless. Promise me now, Rose, and never let go of that promise.

9. The Pursuit of Happyness

Picture
This movie hurts my heart so much. Will Smith did a beautiful job, as always, with this utterly sad movie.

Life hasn't been easy for this man and his family. Struggling to make ends meet, Chris and his five-year-old son get evicted from their apartment with nowhere to go.

Chris is talented and driven. He lands an internship at a stock brokerage firm. While in pursuit of a better life for him and his son, they endure several hardships, but Chris will not give up.

10. Room

OMG... THE FEELS!!! My sister introduced me to this movie and I couldn't keep my eyes off the TV.

A woman and her son live in captivity in a small room for seven years.

They finally escape from their captor and free from the room, the only place the 5-year-old son has ever seen and known his whole life.

New obstacles arise as they face the real world for the first time after so long.

Jack: Bye, plant. Bye, chair number one. Bye, chair number two. Bye, table. Bye, wardrobe. Bye, sink. Bye-bye, skylight. Ma, say bye-bye to room.
Ma: Bye, Room.
